Your child should already know what team they are on and know what color shirt they should wear. The shirt can be any green or gold shirt that they have it does not need to say Saint Kevin.   Please send extra water tomorrow as they will be doing activities all morning. Lunch is not being provided unless you ordered lunch through the hot lunch program. We are excited for field day!

Week of 1/17

This month we will begin discussing the 5 senses.  We will first explore the sense of hearing with sound shakers and color our religion sheet, Thank You God for Ears that HEAR!  In the next couple of weeks, we will cover touch, taste, sight and smell.

We will send learn about the color blue and send home the show and tell bags so the class can bring in a blue item from home.

National Catholic Schools Week begins on Sunday, January 29.  St. Kevin Catholic Academy invites you to attend 10am mass followed by Open House.

Monday, January 30 is our Academic Fair at 6:30 in the gymnasium.  Our class project is: Community Helpers – Police Officers. We will make a collage with photos and pictures and colored artwork.  Thank you for sending in one or two items to add to our poster board.

Scholastic

I’m so happy to see that many families are interested in Scholastic book orders! Please note that while I hand out catalogues each month, you can still order books from other catalogues. I highly recommend ordering online as the mailing process can be quite slow. You can create an account on scholastic.com and use our class code: LG37C

November

It’s hard to believe that Halloween has come and gone so quickly! Before you know it, it will be Christmas! Your children have been working very hard in 3rd grade and I’m proud of all they’re learning. We will soon be starting multiplication so I encourage you to practice with them each night in order to help their fluency.

Happy Winter to all! Our class has been working so hard over the past few months and we have been having a great time while doing it. In addition to our S.T.E.M. project for Catholic Schools Week (Dancing Oobleck!), the 3rd graders completed and presented their biography book reports. Many of them loved dressing up as their famous person from history!

We are working on so many things such as division, types of energy, immigration, main idea and detail, Lent and Easter, and so many different things!

Happy December!

I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgivings and the break we had!

In class we are still in our nature unit so encourage our students to look around and see all the changes that come with winter.

Just a reminder that the school Christmas show will be on December 17th. We are practicing our songs and here are some of the ones we are working on in Kindergarten: Silent Night, Must Be Santa, and SnowPants.

Here are links to practice these songs at home so they we can be extra prepared for our show at St. Kevin’s.

Must Be Santa:

We are only doing this part of Must Be Santa:

Who’s got a beard that’s long and white?
Santa’s got a beard that’s long and white
Who comes around on a special night?
Santa comes around on a special night
Special night, beard that’s white
Must be Santa, must be Santa
Must be Santa, Santa Claus

Who’s got boots and a suit of red?
Santa’s got boots and a suit of red
Who wears a long cap on his head?
Santa wears a long cap on his head

Cap on head, suit that’s red
Special night, beard that’s white
Must be Santa, must be Santa
Must be Santa, Santa Claus

Who’s got a big red cherry nose?
Santa’s got a big red cherry nose
Who laughs this way, “ho, ho, ho!”?
Santa laughs this way, “ho, ho, ho!”

Ho, ho, ho, cherry nose
Cap on head, suit that’s red
Special night, beard that’s white
Must be Santa, must be Santa
Must be Santa, Santa Claus

Must be Santa, must be Santa
Must be Santa, Santa Claus

SnowPants:

We are also doing Silent Night:

Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin, mother and child
Holy infant, tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin, mother and child
Holy infant, tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace

And a new song has been added Holly Jolly Christmas.

Week of September 21

I enjoyed meeting so many parents at Back to School Night! Please make sure that your children are practicing math facts, especially addition and subtraction fast facts, every night. They should also be reading for at least 15 minutes EVERY night. Practicing reading aids in fluency and makes students stronger readers.

We will have our first mid-chapter checkpoint for Math on Friday. This will be a quiz grade and it’s open book.

THURSDAY: Picture Day for Individual Pictures
