Allison Murphy began her teaching career in 1989 at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Cambria Heights as a Junior High Religion Teacher. In the early nineties, she left to focus on raising her two young sons, Terence and Timothy.
When her youngest started school, she returned to teaching at Sacred Heart. Over the course of the next 18 years, she held many positions including 4th Grade Homeroom, Computer/ Technology Teacher- K-8, Junior High ELA, Social Studies, ending her career as the Junior High Math teacher. From Sacred Heart, she was asked to be principal at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Academy in Bushwick, Brooklyn where she was until this past year.
When asked what she enjoys most about being a principal, Mrs. Murphy responded “As a Catholic woman, I have been called by God to serve His people. I have been blessed to be a part of students’, families’ and teachers’ lives throughout my career as a teacher and principal. I realize what an amazing responsibility it is to support parents while they raise their children to be the best people they can be while they are achieving their greatest academic goals.”
Since arriving at SKCA, she has appreciated all of the overwhelming support from everyone including the Board, the APA, the Parents and Members of the Faculty and feels it truly is an indication of the commitment the community has for the success of the school. She’s confident the warm welcome has set the tone for a positive and productive school year ahead!
Growing up in Baldwin, she was a parishioner at St. Christopher Church as well as attended the parish school there. Currently, Mrs. Murphy, her husband and sons are active members of their parish, Cure of Ars in Merrick, Long Island. Allison and her husband have also been part of the Pre-Cana program there for the past 15+ years. She is looking forward to getting more involved at St. Kevin and feels blessed to be here. Please introduce yourself to Mrs. Murphy when you see her around the school or church.
We are delighted she is here and are happy to welcome her to the St. Kevin Family!
